Say this about the 2021 Grammy Awards, they will probably go down as the last time you see Trevor Noah host a major awards show.

The show was a ratings disaster. And that’s putting a positive spin on how bad it was.

In year number 62 of the music awards show, it was the lowest-ranked ever. It garnered 8.8 million total viewers and scored a 2.1 rating on CBS. It’s almost impossible for a show featuring as  much musical talent as it did to tank so spectacularly.  Either people didn’t know about the show, didn’t care, or were turned off by something about it.

Wait, it gets worse.  The 8.8 million viewers wasn’t just what CBS could scrape together on Sunday night. No, that number includes data from all the streamers that aired the show as well, including    CBS.com, Paramount+ and others.

The 18-48 demographic is the target audience for shows like this, and the people in this age group ignored the show as aggressively as the rest of the country. Numbers were down 60% from 2020 in that key demo.

The show was such a flop, that somehow, someway, even with Beyonce and Taylor Swift spending half the night accepting trophies, the show had less than half of the viewers of the previous low point.

That was in 2006, when the show had 17 million sets of eyeballs on it.

It’s not like the competition on other networks was overwhelming for CBS, they faced off against Ellen’s Game of Games on NBC, an animated show on Fox, and American Idol on ABC.

How long before CBS and Grammy executives put a contract in front of Oprah, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry and beg the trio to host the 2022 show?
