Lady Gaga posted a confusing, supportive, insulting, tone-deaf, inspiring and divisive political video to Twitter. Anyone who’s heard of Lady Gaga, and anyone who is aware of the 2020 election, recognizes reality in each of those adjectives.

The global superstar appears in camo gear while posing next to a truck and holding a beer, apparently trying to reach stereotyped rural voters.

The entertainer also revealed her vote in a 38-second video posted Saturday, saying in part “Hey, this is Lady Gaga. I’m voting for America, which means I’m voting for Joe Biden. … If you live in Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan, Florida, or Arizona, I encourage you to vote.”

She finishes by opening her can of beer, taking a drink and slamming it to the ground saying: “Cheers to the 2020 election.” The post has received more than 7 million views.

As is the case with many viral Twitter videos, the comments become the star and, upon quick observation, the vast majority appear to give it a thumbs-down.

From an account identifying the writer as a dental hygienist from Tennessee: “I don’t own a truck, never worn camo or drank a beer so if this is your idea of #TrumpSupporters you’re dead wrong we’re college educated, hard working people who love our country but nice try GaGa.”

From an account from South Carolina: “Stunts like this, are exactly why Trump is going to win.”

Lady Gaga, followed on Twitter by more than 83 million people, wasn’t without support ,including: “LOVE U MOM QUEEN OF DEMOCRACY” and “Trumpers are just jealous because they can’t get RELEVANT celebs to back their campaign. Kid Rock isn’t exactly thriving right now…”

But perhaps the most sensible (and recurring theme among commenters): “Why would you take one sip of beer and throw it on the ground?”
