You have to love a Governor who is passionate about football and has an emotional investment in a game. Texas Gov Greg Abbott was kicking back Sunday, watching his Dallas Cowboys take on the San Francisco 49ers in an NFC Divisional Round playoff game, when he got sick of watching the results of the Cowboys kicker.

All eyes were on Brett Maher, wondering if he would continue to struggle as he did against Tampa Bay in the previous game when he missed four extra points. No kicker in the history of the league had missed four in a single game.

In the first half against the Niners, Maher had a field goal blocked, which prompted Abbott to head to Twitter and vent as any good fan would.

“I swear, I can kick as good as the Dallas Cowboys kicker,” is what he tweeted.

He has a point. I mean, it would be impossible to do worse than what Maher’s done recently. To Maher’s credit, he connected on one extra point and a field goal in the loss to San Fran.Kick

Having such a high-profile case of the yips is something you wouldn’t wish on anyone. Well, maybe Abbott would like to see California Governor Gavin Newsom humiliate himself to that degree.  Newsom’s team is now advancing to the NFC Championship yet again, but you have to wonder if Newsom would even notice.

Or care.
