Massive defensive tackle Vince Wilfork – at least during his New England Patriots playing days – has to deal with some serious family issues in the wake of his son’s arrest.
D’Aundre Holmes-Wilfork has been charged with stealing from his father – to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars in property that included two Super Bowl rings belonging to the elder Wilfork.
Holmes-Wilfork, 23, has been charged with theft of property greater than $300,000, according to a police report from Galveston (Texas) County District Attorney’s Office.
Last month Vince Wilfork found a few items missing. On May 10, he reported the disappearance of two Super Bowl rings, two AFC championship rings, a 2001 University of Miami Hurricanes national championship ring and more jewelry.
A Patriots fan heard about Wilfork’s missing rings and contacted Wilfork. He told Wilfork the rings were up for sale via an online sports memorabilia group.
Police found the seller had paid $62,000 last year to Wilfork’s son for the rings, which were subsequently handed over to law enforcement. Police also discovered that eight other pieces of Wilfork’s jewelry were sold in March 2020 for $4,600.
Holmes-Wilfork was arrested May 22 and has been released on a $300,000 bond.
According to a CBS.com report, Holmes-Wilfork is adopted and the oldest of Wilfork’s three children. His mother, Bianca, met Wilfork while Wilfork was attending the University of Miami. The couple married and had two more children together.
Wilfork played for the Patriots from 2004-14 and then for the Houston Texans from 2015-16.
Wilfork, 39, is among the elite defensive linemen in Patriots history.
A first-round draft pick of New England in 2004, he was actively involved in the community and earned the Patriots’ community service award in 2010.
