Republican Sen. Kelly Loeffler is on board with the “Stop the Steal” movement. The Georgia senator, who is in a runoff election today, announced Monday night that she would join other senators in objecting to the Electoral College vote certification process.
“The American people deserve a platform in Congress, permitted under the Constitution, to have election issues presented so that they can be addressed. That’s why, on January 6th, I will vote to give President Trump and the American people the fair hearing they deserve and support the objection to the Electoral College certification process. I have also already introduced legislation to establish a commission to investigate election irregularities and recommend election integrity measures, which I will be working to get passed in the Senate. We must restore trust, confidence and integrity in our election system,” Loeffler said in a statement released through her Twitter account.
Loeffler was appointed to fill the remainder of the term of retired Sen. Johnny Isakson and remains in that position until the runoff election results are determined. Fellow Republican Sen. David Perdue’s term ended on Sunday, so he will most likely not be a part of the Senate vote on Wednesday, as official results are not expected in the runoff election for at least a few days, if not longer.
The Joint Session of Congress will get underway on Wednesday, Jan. 6, at 1 p.m. EST. Vice President Mike Pence will preside over the session and is expected to declare the winner.
