Sometimes, the anti conservative vitriol goes so far, even a university will apologize. But the kids won’t be alright.
Stanford University issued a formal apology to the Trump appointed judge who was invited to speak to their law students, but was quickly shouted down, unable to continue the lecture.
US Circuit Judge Kyle Duncan came to Stanford Law on the invitation of the Federalist Society, a notably conservative college group. This wasn’t some lecture for a required law class. His lecture wasn’t presented as objective analysis, he wasn’t a graduation speaker.
But over 100 protestors came storming in with, according to Duncan, “vulgar signs” and jeers a-plenty. They were part of another college group, OutLaw, which aims to represent LGBT students. The group said he made decisions that threatened LGBT personhood, although they didn’t give any specifics.
The Dean of Diversity and Inclusion, Tirien Steinbach, was seen and photographed protesting, while encouraging the students. She even posted a video shortly before the event saying, “for many people at the law school who work here, who study here, and who live here, your advocacy—your opinions from the bench—land as absolute disenfranchisement of their rights.”
Duncan could barely get a handful of paragraphs out of his speech before he threw in the towel.
A law student who was part of the protest group decided to quickly put the blame on Duncan saying he called some of the protestors idiots. “They are idiots,” Duncan said when confronted with his shocking words. “They are hypocrites and they are bullies.”
Duncan was quick to demand an apology of Stanford’s behalf.
Stanford finally did so, and somewhat sincerely, saying they sincerely apologize and that “what happened was inconsistent with our policies on free speech, and we are very sorry about the experience you had while visiting our campus. We are very clear with our students that, given our commitment to free expression, if there are speakers they disagree with, they are welcome to exercise their right to protest but not disrupt the proceedings.”
You think it would end there. But what happens next shows there’s a reason why colleges don’t apologize for disruptions. Liberal students didn’t like the apology issued by the school president and law school dean.
They defaced the classroom of the law dean with flyers everywhere saying “we have free speech rights too”. And in her class, 50 students dressed in all black and protested and follow her out the classroom after she her lesson.
They didn’t receive any reprimand, but what do you expect?
