Kamala Harris has remained relatively quiet in the last couple of weeks leading up to Election Day. Joe Biden’s vice-presidential nominee has been back on the campaign trail speaking to supporters at events after a self-imposed quarantine. But following the vice-presidential debate, we have not seen a whole lot of either Harris or vice-presidential nominee Mike Pence as Biden and Trump have taken center stage.

Sunday night, Harris appeared in a “60 Minutes” interview and was asked about progressive policy ideas and her 2019 ranking from GovTrack which stated that she is considered the most liberal United States Senator.” CBS News anchor Norah O’Donnell asked Harris about her support for the Green New Deal, Medicare for all and legalizing marijuana.

Biden has yet to publicly support any of those policies and O’Donnell asked Harris if she planned to bring the socialist and progressive perspective into the Biden administration. ”What I will do, and I promise you this, and this is what Joe wants me to do, this was part of our deal, I will always share with him my lived experience as it relates to any issue that we confront,” Harris said.

O’Donnell followed Harris’ response by asking, “Is that a socialist or progressive perspective?” to which Harris laughed out loud saying, No, it is the perspective of a woman who grew up a black child in America, who was also a prosecutor, who also has a mother who arrived here at the age of 19 from India, who also likes hip hop,” still chuckling as she finished her answer.

Harris apparently found the question funny, while many critics quickly pointed to the fact that she laughed off the chance to address the question and sidestepped it in her answer.
