From front-runner to “underdog”? Joe Biden has been called many things this election cycle but “underdog” is a new one. FiveThirtyEight founder Nate Silver was on “This Week” with George Stephanopoulos Sunday when he said, “without Pennsylvania, then Biden becomes an underdog.”

Silver rose to prominence after correctly predicting the electoral outcome of the 2008 election in all but one state. As Election Day nears, Silver is pointing to Pennsylvania as the key swing state and said there are many things suddenly complicating a Biden victory there.

A security envelope requirement in Pennsylvania, a looming court battle over votes, and the recent return of riots and violence in Philadelphia are all factors that could work against Biden. “There’s lots of stuff going on, and maybe a lot of little things add up,” Silver said.

Biden has basically been forced to clean up his own oil spill in the state following the third presidential debate when he said “I would transition away from the oil industry, yes.” Pennsylvania relies heavily on the oil and gas industry with around 26,000 employed in that sector, according to the state.

The Biden campaign has more than a dozen events scheduled across Pennsylvania on Monday as it looks to make a final push. One of the events Biden himself will attend is in Pittsburgh, where the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the largest newspaper in the city, just announced its endorsement of Donald Trump. The paper has previously not endorsed a Republican for president since 1972.
