Sunday was a very eventful day regarding President Trump’s legal team, with much of the drama surrounding former federal prosecutor Sidney Powell, who’s been the most outspoken voice regarding evidence she claimed she was in possession of that proved rampant voter fraud surrounding the presidential election.
It started with an appearance Powell made on Newsmax TV, during which she claimed that the amount of evidence would lead to criminal charges of “biblical proportions” in Georgia as well as other states throughout the country. One of Powell’s claims on Newsmax implied that Brian Kemp, the governor of Georgia, might even be involved in her alleged voter-fraud conspiracy.
This followed her claim on Fox Business Friday that evidence would be placed in front of courts in the next two weeks that she believed would change the election’s outcome. The series of explosive charges by Powell led to President Trump’s campaign distancing themselves from her Sunday, claiming she is “not a member of the Trump legal team.”
Trump’s personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, took it one step further Sunday, saying “Sidney Powell is practicing law on her own. She is not a member of the Trump legal team. She is also not a lawyer for the president in his personal capacity.”
The fireworks were not done. Following Giuliani’s statement, Powell released her own statement Sunday night.
“I understand today’s press release,” Powell wrote. “I will continue to represent #WeThePeople who had their votes for Trump and other Republicans stolen by massive fraud through Dominion and Smartmatic, and we will be filing suit soon. The chips will fall where they may, and we will defend the foundations of this great Republic. #KrakenOnSteroids.”
Powell, a former federal prosecutor, had forged a reputation as a straight-shooting, no-nonsense lawyer, so the next chapter in this story promises to be dramatic and impactful.
