As the saying goes, “Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it.” According to a new poll about socialism and Marxism, it appears Gen Z and Millennials may be due for a history lesson.

According to the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation (VOC), its annual poll assessing Americans’ attitudes toward socialism shows Millennials and Gen Z-ers are becoming increasingly comfortable with socialism.

In a statement on the Victims of Communism website, VOC Executive Director Marion Smith points the blame directly at American education institutions for failing to address the true cost of communism. “This represents a total failure of our education system, not just in schools but also a basic dishonesty in our media and popular culture. When one-in-four Americans want to eliminate capitalism and embrace socialism, we know that we have failed to educate about the historical and moral failings of these ideologies.”

According to the latest poll, 40% of Americans have a favorable view of socialism. Sentiment towards socialism among younger generations has increased considerably with Gen Z’s favorability shooting up to 49%, a 9% increase over the 2019 results.

There is one outlier in in the polling that proves even further that the younger generations don’t have a good grasp on what socialism and Marxism really represent. When asked about trusting their government, only 6% of Gen Z and 5% of Millennials said they would trust the government to take care of their interests.

For all Gen Z and Millennials reading this, there are some excellent case studies available that show the results of regimes led by the likes of Stalin, Marx, Lenin, Castro, and more recently, Hugo Chavez. It’s quite eye-opening.
