The Associated Press declared Democratic presidential challenger Joe Biden the winner in Wisconsin on Wednesday, but the Trump campaign said “not so fast” and will request a recount of all votes in the Badger State. At stake are 10 Electoral College votes that both candidates desperately need.
Trump campaign manager Bill Stepien said inaccurate polling numbers were used as a form of voter suppression, and their next steps have been determined. “There have been reports of irregularities in several Wisconsin counties which raise serious doubts about the validity of the results. The president is well within the threshold to request a recount and we will immediately do so.”
According to the Wisconsin Election Commission, a candidate that is within 1% of the winner can request a recount after the Commission completes the canvass from county election boards.
The Biden campaign believes that, with or without a recount, Biden will be declared the winner, even if Team Trump tries to put the issue in front of the U.S. Supreme Court. Biden’s campaign manager, Bob Bauer, told Politico in an interview, “If at some point he arrives before the Supreme Court with a novel proposition that ballots that were lawfully cast by eligible voters, but not yet counted by the time Donald Trump wanted them counted, that somehow they don’t count anymore, he will be in for one of the most embarrassing defeats a president ever suffered before the highest court of the land.”
