For a guy who’s life was a crazy, secretive and exciting rampage, it’s not surprising there’s mystery, intrigue and incredible drama surrounding his death.

Cybersecurity tycoon John McAfee apparently committed suicide last week, dying by suicide in a Spanish prison as he waited extradition to the U.S. on tax evasion charges.

Following his death, numerous conspiracy theories abounded, but the Associated Press reported that someone close to the investigation told them that McAfee had a suicide note on him when he was found in his cell.

Javier Villalba is McAfee’s Spanish lawyer, and as of Monday he said the family has not been told by authorities that a suicide note existed.

Fueling some of the alternative theories as to what may or may not have happened in that Barcelona jail cell is the fact his wife is demanding a “thorough investigation” because she claims McAfee appeared far from being suicidal the last time they spoke.

Here’s part of what she said as she was gathering his belongings. “His last words to me were ‘I love you and I will call you in the evening. Those words are not words of somebody who is suicidal.”

McAfee’s wife also shared the theory her husband had that he believed authorities wanted him to die in prison.

Less than a week after McAfee has passed, there’s no question he’ll continue to be controversial and interesting just as he was during his 75 years.
