Peloton has been riding high as one of the “winners” of the pandemic. Some instructors have become the object of virtual celeb crushes, the stock price exploded, and things were pretty rosy for the home-based workout equipment company.

But Saturday U.S. regulators said one of their state-of-the-art treadmills should be avoided at all costs if you have young children that could come in contact of it.

There’s has been one child death and dozens of reported instances where children, or even pets can get seriously injured or killed by getting sucked under the conveyor belt’s back roller.

Peloton has a different take on the matter. They say their Tread+ is no more dangerous than any other piece of equipment.

They released a statement, basically saying if you are too stupid to not read all the directions, yes, you could get hurt, and the machine was never meant for children to use anyway.

“The Tread+ is safe for Members to use in their homes and comes with safety instructions and warnings to ensure its safe use. Like all motorized exercise equipment, the Tread+ can pose hazards if the warnings and safety instructions are not followed. The Tread+ is not for children under 16. Peloton warns Members not to let children use the Tread+ and to keep children, pets, and objects away from the Tread+ at all times.”

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission was formed to warn Americans what products potentially can cause harm, and they are aggressively telling Peloton fans to avoid the Tread+.
