The United States Department of Defense released a statement last week categorically denying that musical sensation Taylor Swift is an asset for its Psychological Operations (PSYOP) unit. According to the Pentagon, the theory that the pop singer has been “a front for a covert political agenda” since 2019 is completely unfounded…but that hasn’t completely dispelled the notion that she’s some kind of mastermind.

Theories about Swift’s meteoric rise to the top of the music industry have swirled for years, encompassing everything from government collusion to witchcraft and the dark arts. In 2023, Swift’s international “Eras Tour” pulled in billions of dollars and earned her the title of TIME Magazine’s Person of the Year.
But ahead of the 2024 election, many are expecting that Swift—who was once accused of remaining “deafeningly silent” on political issues—will mobilize her millions of fans on behalf of left-wing causes and the Democratic Party.

“Have you ever wondered why or how she blew up like this?” asked Fox News host Jesse Watters on Wednesday. “Well, around four years ago, the Pentagon’s Psychological Operations unit floated turning Taylor Swift into an asset during a NATO meeting.”
“What kind of asset? A psyop for combatting online misinformation,” Watters continued. He then played a clip from the 2019 NATO Cooperative Cyber Defense Center of Excellence, during which Swift was named as an example of a powerful influencer.

“It’s real. The Pentagon psyop unit pitched NATO on turning Taylor Swift into an asset for combating misinformation online,” Watters said.
However, according to U.S. intelligence officials, reports of Taylor Swift being an undercover government asset are completely baseless.

“As for this conspiracy theory, we are going to shake it off,” said Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh in response to the Fox segment. “But that does highlight that we still need Congress to approve our supplemental budget request as Swift-ly as possible so we can be out of the woods with potential fiscal concerns.”
Singh continued by telling Congress that “I Wish You Would” approve the administration’s supplemental budget request.
Nevertheless, the denial from the Pentagon (an organization not known for its honesty and transparency with the public) has not assuaged concerns over Swift’s potential political influence.
After years of silence on political issues, the singer quickly transitioned into an outspoken advocate for left-wing causes, notably condemning pro-life legislation and advancing LGBT rights. In 2020, she also accused Donald Trump of “stoking the fires of white supremacy” and encouraged her fans to get out and vote. Her ongoing partnership with Vote.org is focused on increasing voter engagement in “underserved communities.”
With another presidential election approaching, many fear that an army of “Swifties” may soon mobilize on behalf of Joe Biden’s reelection campaign…and with “Mother” leading the movement, they may prove a force to be reckoned with.
“What if I told you I’m a mastermind? And now you’re mine.
It was all by design…’cause I’m a mastermind.”
