The Joe Biden presidential campaign is striking back following the New York Post report featuring alleged uncovered emails suggesting Hunter Biden introduced his then-vice president father to a top executive at Ukrainian natural gas firm Burisma Holdings.

After the story dropped on Wednesday morning, Joe Biden put “a lid” on the day, indicating he would not be doing any more interviews or appearances. It was clear the Biden camp was going into damage-control mode to figure out how to respond to the story. By late in the afternoon, the Biden camp released a statement.

The Biden campaign delivered the official word: “We have reviewed Joe Biden’s official schedules from the time and no meeting, as alleged by the New York Post, ever took place.” So, according to Biden’s own camp, no “official” meeting ever took place. They did, however, steer clear of mentioning any “unofficial” meetings.

The statement also addressed previous Senate committees that have looked into the matter. “Investigations by the press during impeachment, and even by two Republican-led Senate committees whose work was decried as ‘not legitimate’ and political by a GOP colleague, have all reached the same conclusion: that Joe Biden carried out official U.S. policy toward Ukraine and engaged in no wrongdoing. Trump Administration officials have attested to these facts under oath.”

Drawing a connection to previous Senate committees looking into the matter is an interesting angle, as it does not address the newly released information. The New York Post story presented some new evidence on the meetings and there is a fairly good chance that evidence was not available to those Senate committees.

The New York Post story reported that the released emails were contained within “a trove of data” recovered from a laptop computer, which, according to the Post, was dropped off at a Delaware repair shop in 2019. If there is a trove of data remaining, the Biden camp may simply be cautious about saying too much as they wait to see if anything else drops.
