If you’re fresh out of college, you likely have less experience than others competing for the same role. If you haven’t established contacts from networking, then you might be thinking to yourself, how the heck can I get a decent job. Well Garrett Lord is here to help. Garrett built the website Handshake, which promises to be the #1 way college students can get hired.

Forbes reported:

The pandemic presented Handshake’s first big test, and its greatest opportunity. Within weeks during the spring of 2020, the unemployment rate for college graduates between 20 and 24 years old skyrocketed from 4.2% to a peak of 20.4% that June. “We threw our entire product roadmap out the window and rallied our company to figure out how we could build virtual tools,” Lord says. “We had an opportunity to really help make sure that the graduating class that year didn’t fall by the wayside.”

Lord, is a Forbes 30 under 30 recipient for North America 2023. When he was in the same position struggling to get a job years earlier, he did not have an elite school under his belt. Nor did he have connected parents. But with a smart strategy, he was able to secure a summer internship at one of Silicon Valleys hottest start-ups. Now he is the founder of Handshake.

Lord says:

“There’s just such an opportunity to deliver a magical experience for students and young professionals that we’re really excited about, and we’ve got enough capital to do it.”

Handshake simplifies the process of finding a job, since it caters to college students, and recent graduates. This niche allows employers to essentially filter the demographic they want. So, millennials and Gen Z’s…there is hope for you, yet.
