Sammy Blais was re-signed to a one-year contract.

The New York Rangers have officially re-signed Sammy Blais to the team in a $1.525 million deal today. This is slightly more than his previous contract for two years with a $1.5 million average annual value.

The deal pre-empted restricted free agency for Blais, who came to the New York Rangers in the Pavel Buchnevich trade last off-season.

Blais participated in 14 games with the Rangers this season before tearing his ACL. He was able to participate in practices till the end of the playoff season but did not return to the ice.

This is the start of a very busy offseason for Chris Drury, the NYR’s general manager. Kaapo Kakko, Julien Gauthier, and Alexandar Georgiev will also be restricted free agents. Ryan Strome, Kevin Rooney, Andrew Copp, Frank Vatrano, Tyler Motte, Justin Braun, and Greg McKegg will be unrestricted free agents.

Sammy Blais is expected to be at full health in the upcoming season and could be placed into the third or fourth line depending on the route the Rangers choose to take with their roster.

The New York Rangers were officially eliminated from the Eastern Conference Finals after they lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning last week. Tampa Bay defeated the Rangers using the same tactic they have been using towards their other opponents this playoff season.

Tampa Bay drowned the Rangers in all three zones and rode a two-goal performance from captain Steven Stamkos.

The Rangers lost Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals with a final score of 2-1.
