A glass of champagne at a nice New York or Los Angeles restaurant could set you back $30 or so.  A bottle of decent bubbly at a liquor store would go for $80-$200.

A magnum of Chateau Avenue Foch, 2017 must have had some magic bubbles or liquid gold mixed in because it just sold at auction for $2.5 million.

What could possibly be a big enough occasion to warrant opening that bottle?

There’s a bit of a gimmick attached to this sale, specifically a Bored Ape Mutant NFT, which people apparently still want despite the recent slide in cryptocurrencies.

Two brothers made the purchase, Giovanni and Piero Buono.  They invest in crypto, so maybe they need the champagne to grow their sorrows of what’s gone in that space lately?

Give it up for Shammi Shinh, the British businessman who sold the bottle. Here’s a quote from him.

“I’m hoping for more awareness — I want people to understand NFTs now.”

Yeah, I hate to break it to you, buddy, but I don’t think that will move the needle much.

FYI, Chateau Avenue Foch is a new brand of champagne. The brothers said they have no interest in ever opening the bottle.

Oh, one more thing, the most expensive bottle of wine ever sold, according to a CNN report, is a bottle of Domaine de la Romanee-Conti, which went for $558K. That came without an NFT.
