As President Trump continues to defend his administration’s response to the pandemic, the President is also taking time to point out what he believes are the inconsistencies of the medical field’s face of the virus, Dr. Anthony Fauci. Assessing the relationship, Fauci and Donald Trump never exactly seemed like best friends, although the pair appeared to tolerate each other as they focused on COVID-19.
Recently, Trump and Fauci have found themselves at odds with each other more and more. The president has been reminding people at rallies that at one-point, Fauci told people not to wear a mask. Fauci has since called for universal mask-wearing policies.
Trump also talked about Fauci’s political leanings at a rally yesterday. “He’s a nice guy so I keep him around, right? We’ll keep him around. He’s a Democrat. Everybody knows that. He’s [New York Gov. Andrew] Cuomo’s friend. Cuomo did the worst job of any governor in the United States,” Trump said referring to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and his highly criticized response to the coronavirus.
Fauci has also let his feelings be known recently after calling out the Trump campaign for using his comments in an ad. The doctor, who said he has never picked sides in his five-decade career, felt as though his comments were used to make it seem like an endorsement for Trump when in fact, he wanted to remain neutral.
Fauci has served as the director of the National Institute of Allergy Infectious Diseases since 1984. His willingness to contradict Trump throughout the pandemic has earned him his fair share of Twitter reactions from the president.
