Not to give the entire story away in the first line, but a guy in India divorced his wife because for every meal, every single meal, she cooked him instant noodles for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

According to an Insider story, the judge that handled the proceedings called it the “Maggi case,” according to an Insider story, and that’s not because the wife’s name is Maggie. No, that’s what the noodles are called.

According to the hungry hubby, who wanted a little variety in his meals, his wife would buy packets of Maggi noodles, boil them up, then throw them down in front of him until he simply could not take it anymore and had to move on.

In India, there is what’s called the “Special Marriage Act of 1954 { and that allows for a couple to divorce on mutual consent after they live separately for a year and agree they don’t want to be married any longer.  No matter what is served for dinner.

Those noodles must have really driven this man nuts because, in India, divorce is not nearly as common as it is in the U.S.  The divorce rate in India is just 11%, which means many people must endure endless noodle meals and other annoying things from their spouses.  In America, half of the marriages end up in divorce.

Here’s a quote from the central district and sessions-court judge ML Raghunath in the New Indian  Express.

“Divorce cases are increasing drastically over the years. Couples have to stay together for at least a year before seeking a divorce. If there was no such law, there would be divorce petitions filed directly from wedding halls.”
