According to the ESA, 67% of all American adults play video games.

The survey used data from approximately 4,000 Americans 18 years of age and older about their video game playing habits and noted the average U.S. video game player is 31 years old, and 90 percent of players are over 18 years old.

76% of kids under 18 years old are gamers.

The highest total percentage of gamers is between the ages of 18 and 34 years old at 38 percent, with those under 18 coming in 2nd at 20%.

Parents are increasingly playing games with their kids.

74% of parents, to be exact, which is up from 55 percent in 2020.

Those same people played 55% more during the pandemic, with 90% admitting they will continue to play now that the pandemic has basically ended.

75% of players are over the age of 18, contradicting the common stereotype that videogames are mostly played by kids and teenagers.

The average age of a video game player today is 33 years old, according to the report commissioned by the Entertainment Software Association.

“The fact we’re seeing more people over 45 years old playing than under 18 just speaks to the growth and adoption of gameplay and how people even later in life continue to gravitate towards games,” says Stanley Pierre-Louis, the president and CEO of the ESA. “We found every demographic play games, whether it’s on PC, console or mobile device and there’s something for all tastes.”

The most popular gaming platform is the smartphone, according to 70% of participants in the study. A video game console came in second at (52%), personal computer (43%), tablet/iPad (26%), and virtual reality headset (7%).

About 60% of respondents say they enjoy playing on multiple devices.
