Making his final pitch to voters in Georgia ahead of the Senate runoff election, President-elect Joe Biden basically bribed voters with his message that if Democrats win the pair of races, then Congress would send a third stimulus check to Americans struggling through the coronavirus pandemic.

“If you send Jon and the Reverend to Washington, those $2,000 checks will go out the door,” Biden said Monday while campaigning in Georgia, the day before the election. “And if you send Sens. Perdue and Loeffler back to Washington, those checks will never get there. It’s just that simple. The power is literally in your hands.”

Biden took the same message to Twitter, saying, “The debate over $2,000 isn’t some abstract debate in Washington. It’s about real lives. Hardworking Americans need help, and they need it now. Georgia—you have the power to make it happen. Vote.”

Republican Sens. Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue have both backed President Trump’s calls to increase the payments to Americans from $600 to $2000. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has rejected the bill for larger payments, in hopes of passing his own legislation that would combine the $2,000 checks with the repeal of online liability protections known as section 230 and the establishment of a commission to study voter fraud.

Currently, American adults who earned less than $75,000 in 2019 will receive the full $600 check, while couples who earned less than $150,000 will receive $1,200.
