Meta, led by CEO Mark Zuckerberg, has donated $1 million to President-elect Donald Trump’s inaugural fund, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday. This marks a significant policy shift for Meta, as the company did not contribute to Trump’s 2017 or Biden’s 2021 inaugurations.

This donation follows a recent meeting between Zuckerberg and Trump at Mar-a-Lago, seen as part of efforts to repair their strained relationship, which deteriorated after Meta banned Trump following the January 6 Capitol riot.

Despite past accusations from Trump that Meta censored conservative voices, Zuckerberg appears to be aligning with the incoming administration, possibly to influence future tech policies. Trump has also accused Zuckerberg of using massive political donations–so-called “Zuck Bucks”–to help the Democratic Party, though the Facebook founder has denied this.

The donation reflects a broader trend among Silicon Valley executives seeking favor with Trump’s administration. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, for example, congratulated Trump for “an extraordinary political comeback and decisive victory” on election night, reversing his longstanding opposition to Trump’s political agenda. The Bezos-owned Washington Post also declined to issue an endorsement in the presidential race.

Zuckerberg’s actions have sparked speculation and criticism, with some viewing it as an attempt to appease Trump after he previously suggested Zuckerberg could face imprisonment over alleged election interference.
