The CDC wants schools to open up for in-classroom learning around the country, and they also want anybody that’s traveling to wear face masks on any form of public transportation. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced their sweeping order Friday, making it a requirement to wear a face mask on airplanes, ships, trains, subways, buses, taxis, and ride-shares. They also want it mandatory in transportation hubs, including airports, bus and ferry terminals, train and subway stations and seaports.
Here’s a question for the CDC: Wasn’t it already basically a requirement? Good luck getting on any plan, or walking through any airport or subway station without a mask the last few months. It wasn’t happening. The difference now with this decree is it will make not wearing a mask a violation of federal law, and flight attendants and other workers in the travel industry will find it easier to enforce their mask wearing mandates.
On Jan. 21, the day after being sworn in as President, Joe Biden ordered government agencies to immediately take action to require masks on basically all forms of public transportation. “Requiring masks on our transportation systems will protect Americans and provide confidence that we can once again travel safely even during this pandemic,” is the message in the 11-page CDC order, which was signed by said the 11-page order signed by Marty Cetron, director for CDC’s Division of Global Migration and Quarantine.
