Embattled Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro placed a 10-day ban on X on Thursday, accusing platform owner Elon Musk of inciting hate, dissension, and civil war in Venezuela during the controversy over the recent election. Maduro’s announcement, which was accompanied by a request for Venezuela’s citizens to delete WhatsApp, comes after Musk has repeatedly accused the socialist dictator of “great electoral fraud” and accepted a challenge to fight him on live television.

“X out for 10 days! Elon Musk out!” Maduro declared during a televised speech, adding that the platform has been used to stoke “hatred, fascism and civil war.”

Maduro did not provide additional details about what the ban entails, merely giving X Corp 10 days to “present their documents.” Earlier in the week, he made a show of deleting WhatsApp from his personal cellphone, telling citizens the app was being used to threaten the families of soldiers and police officers. Instead, he urged them to download Telegram or WeChat.
