Demi Lovato, the pop star behind the hit single, “Sorry Not Sorry,” is once again unapologetic over her newest release. Her song is called “Commander in Chief” and it calls out President Trump.
It’s not the catchiest tune, but some lyrics notable and Biden supporters may find themselves humming along, including the chorus:
“Commander in Chief, honestly/If I did the things you do, I couldn’t sleep/ Seriously, do you even know the truth?/ We’re in a state of crisis, people are dying/ While you line your pockets deep/ Commander in Chief /How does it feel to still be able to breathe?”
While some “Lovatics” (the name given to fans who are full Demi) hang on every note, the song is not striking a chord with everyone.
One fan commented on Lovato’s Instagram, “I hope you realize this makes people that don’t have the same political views feel like they can’t listen to you anymore.”
To which Lovato fired back, “You do understand as a celebrity, I have a right to political views as well? Or did you forget that we aren’t just around to entertain people for our entire lives… that we are citizens of the same country and we are humans with opinions as well?”
In a clear attempt to further rock the election, the cover art for the new release shows the 28-year-old wearing a mask with the word “Vote” on it.
“I literally don’t care if this ruins my career,” declared the singer, who went on to add, “I made a piece of art that stands for something I believe in. And I’m putting it out even at the risk of losing fans.”
Lovato debuted the song Tuesday night during NBC’s broadcast of the “Billboard Music Awards.” At the end of the song, the word VOTE was displayed on a screen behind her, but that image was not seen by viewers, as NBC went to a close up shot of the celebrity’s face.
So much for political harmony.
