There is someone in the US actually looking forward to another presidential debate. One of the combatants. President Trump took to Twitter on Tuesday to let everyone know where he stands on round two. “I am looking forward to the debate on the evening of Thursday, Oct. 15 in Miami. It will be great!”
The president announced his plans to participate in the second debate less than 24 hours after being released from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for treatment of COVID-19. The debate is scheduled to take place following a town hall format with questions coming from voters in Miami. Steve Scully, host of C-SPAN’s Washington Journal, is on deck to moderate the debate. It was recently pointed out that Scully was a former intern of then Delaware Sen. Joe Biden, which has conservative’s questioning his bias as a moderator.
Whether the debate will go on as scheduled remains to be seen. According to guidance issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a person is contagious for 10 to 20 days from the onset of symptoms. For the president, symptoms first occurred around Oct. 1. The president’s team will no doubt be monitoring him closely over the next week to determine when he is no longer infectious.
The Commission on Presidential Debates, a nonprofit group that sponsors the debates, has remained relatively quiet over the past week as they continue to monitor the president’s health.
