Yes, life can be stressful, but according to new research from Penn State, it gets better with age. Researchers say older adults encounter fewer stressors than younger generations throughout the day. Even when older adults encounter a stressor, they are more likely to avoid letting the stressor strain them than younger adults. According to the study, daily stress drops until you reach your mid-50s.

This research applies to most adults, but unfortunately, the study likely does not apply to you. You’re an entrepreneur, and while being one can lead to wealth, success will come with many challenges. In other words, you must pay the cost to be the boss.

According to Entrepreneur.com, 1 in 4 entrepreneurs will experience a mental health disorder. Don’t let the data discourage you from your goals. There are ways to beat the numbers and gain control of your mental health while still creating a successful empire. Entrepreneur lists five ways to do this.

  1. Make time for yourself: This could mean spending time with family and friends, exercising, or even working on an overdue house project. Whatever this looks like for you, take at least a few minutes a day to do it.
  2. Next, set up regular dates with a professional. If you’re struggling with mental health, it’s recommended to seek professional help. If you’re not struggling, it’s still good to be proactive and put a counselor on your payroll.
  3. Join a support group. Yes, multiple support groups offer more than networking opportunities. They also provide moral support.
  4. Take a break. A break can last from an hour to a few days.
  5. Last, take care of your body as well. You need a healthy diet, enough sleep, and exercise to manage stress.
