Lebron James took another record-breaking history lap as he made his 38,388th shot against Oklahoma City Thunder, Tuesday night. The long-time NBA scoring champion, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, was the star witness of the historic moment, with James paying homage to the Laker legend by asking everyone to stand up and give a standing ovation to the “captain.”

Jabbar has held the leading scoring record for a whopping 39 years – having this streak not only broken but by a player in the same team jersey and arena, must bring a sort of serendipitous nostalgia to Laker fans around the world.

Teammates, colleagues and fans took to social media to congratulate the “king” on his historic feat including NBA commissioner, Adam Silver, who shared via Twitter, how James broke “one of the most hallowed records in all sports” and how this achievement “speaks to his sustained excellence over 20 seasons in the league.”

The NBA and ESPN tweeted this on Tuesday night, congratulating the all-star:

ESPN also shared a picture display of James’ career points against every NBA team:

Lebron’s game is a dominant player no matter where you place him on the court. His unique combination of scoring ability, handling and overall stature brings major advantages to his performance – not to mention his incredible durability.  The 38-year-old shows no signs of slowing down as he proves to show longevity in his health and well-being. It’s safe to say, Lebron James’ competitive nature will navigate him to break more NBA records in the years to come.
