Sheryl Sandberg has done a very good job promoting her personal brand working for multiple high-profile Silicon Valley tech companies, including most recently Meta, the parent company of Facebook.

She left the company last week and a Wall Street Journal report says attorneys are digging into the work employees did for a multitude of her personal projects, including her foundation. Large, public companies tend to frown on those types of things.

Lean In is the name of her foundation that advocates for working women.  Investigators are also taking a deep dive into what was going on in the writing and promotion of her book “Option B: Facing Adversity, Building Resilience, And Finding Joy.”

Wait, there’s more. Meta is also checking to see if she used company resources to help plan her wedding.

Sandberg spent 14 years working at Facebook and built a reputation for being perceived as CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s top lieutenant.  The story in the Wall Stree Journal also referenced quotes from people close to the company that said she and Zuck would use private planes for personal travel, and the security detail assigned to them, and paid for by the company, was guarding her on personal time when she wasn’t on the clock.

Facebook went to great lengths to ensure her safety. IN 2021, they paid about $9 million for her security. The company forked over $2.3 million for her to use private planes.

Employees are now talking about the fact that it was reportedly normal for underlings to help her on her book tours and with her foundation. And some lucky employees were tasked with assisting with her family. There’s a good chance that is not in the employee handbook for a Facebook employee.

If you’re wondering if she could have afforded to hire a small staff to help her, Forbes reports her net worth to be $1.3 billion.
