The Supreme Court senate vote for Judge Amy Coney Barrett has all the markings of becoming a circus, possibly a circus set in space. As COVID-19 continues to spread through Washington, D.C., the Republican-led senate is refusing to delay the vote for President Donald Trump’s pick for the Supreme Court.

Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis, has said he would go as far as coming to Capital Hill “in a moon suit” to vote if he’s still testing positive for the coronavirus in the weeks ahead. Johnson is one of three Republican senators who tested positive for the virus in the past week, with several others being forced to quarantine at home. The absences are now effectively denying the Republicans a functioning majority, which has some senators thinking creatively about how this process may proceed.

The rush to confirm Trump’s third court nominee will not subside even as the virus continues to spread. Securing a conservative seat for a generation to come is the big prize, but for Republicans it may also offer a boost to their base. One that gets them excited about going to the polls in an effort to get Trump re-elected.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, chair of the Judiciary Committee, announced that hearings are set to begin in one week on Barrett’s nomination. As of now, the Judiciary Committee is planning on having four days of hearings with a final senate vote by Oct. 29.

If Johnson is serious, he can purchase an UNDERWRAPS Men’s Deluxe Astronaut Space Station Walk Suit costume on Amazon for just over $100.
