Jamie Foxx has opened up about a near-fatal health scare during his Netflix special “What Had Happened Was,” revealing that he suffered a brain bleed that led to a stroke on April 11, 2023. The special, which was filmed in October, served in part to address theories about the nature of Foxx’s near-fatal experience, which have ranged from vaccine injuries to deliberate poisoning.

“April 11, I was having a bad headache, and I asked my boy for an Aspirin. I realized quickly that when you’re in a medical emergency, your boys don’t know what the f–k to do,” Foxx recalled. “Before I could get the Aspirin [clicks his fingers] I went out. I don’t remember 20 days.”

After initially seeking help from a doctor who administered a cortisone shot, his sister, Deidra, recognized the seriousness of his condition and took him to Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, where he underwent emergency surgery.

Foxx was unconscious for nearly 20 days and woke up in a wheelchair, struggling with memory loss and mobility issues. He humorously recounted his experience, describing how “I couldn’t wipe my own ass” and expressing gratitude for the prayers and support he received during his recovery.

Despite still not fully understanding the cause of his medical emergency, he emphasized the importance of family and shared touching moments from his hospitalization, including a duet with his daughter.

Foxx also addressed conspiracy theories surrounding his health, highlighting his desire to dispel rumors. According to unconfirmed reports that circulated at the time, Foxx’s stroke was caused by the COVID-19 vaccine, and the blood clotting had left him partially paralyzed and blind.

After Foxx’s Netflix special was recorded in October, two people who had reportedly attended one of his unfilmed performances claimed the actor blamed embattled rap mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs for causing the hospitalization. However, another person said that Foxx denied these rumors during his standup routine.

“People keep asking me if Diddy was responsible,” the person claimed Foxx said. “He was not responsible. If he was, I would’ve been dead.”
