South Carolina Senator Tim Scott is officially running for president.

He announced a month ago that he was thinking of announcing for president with an official exploratory committee. His over abundance of caution had him release an exploratory campaign video, which technically, is different than a presidential announcement video.

Then he just sat on that for a month. Now, he has filed official paperwork declaring his candidacy. He is all in.

Scott might have a lane for being one of the few prominent black figures in the GOP, as the party aims to expand their base and make it more diverse.

His sunny nature also plays in stark contrast to former President Donald Trump, and seems likeable and good on the stump.

And Scott has $22 million in cash on hand, putting him in the top three candidates with the strongest war chests. He’ll be competitive, financially, at the very least.

But the guy oozes caution and fear.

He won’t give a straight answer on abortion. His base is evangelical and hard right, but he doesn’t want to fully commit to them.

On the campaign trail he wouldn’t answer — even when pressed repeatedly — if he’d sign a federal 15-week abortion ban. He did say he’d support a 20-week one, but religious activists want a much stricter ban put in place. Think Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s six-week abortion ban.

But he also doesn’t have the guts to come out and say the six-week abortion ban is a no-go for him. He’s trying to have his cake and eat it too without taking a position on anything. He’s your typical, consultant-driven politician. There’s no originality with him. At least he seems like a nicer guy than DeSantis.

Oh, and on Trump, he’s too chicken to go after him. Why run at all? Trump has been having fun with Scott’s candidacy already, citing a 2021 article where Scott said he’d support Trump’s candidacy in 2024. No words were added. None were necessary:
