Good news from the Middle East on Thursday, as Israeli leaders approved a cease-fire that would put an end to nearly two weeks of aerial warfare between Israel and Hamas militants.

Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel has seen his phone ring constantly the past few days, with world leaders, including Joe Biden and other U.S. officials imploring him to put an end to the fighting.

Earlier on Thursday it appeared the end might be near, as Secretary of State Antony Blinken said at a press conference that he was expecting a cease-fire soon.

The U.N. was involved in imploring an end to the fighting, and Egypt is being credited for taking the lead in brokering the temporary peace.

The cease-fire was described as “mutual” meaning there were no preconditions attached to it.

Hamas confirmed the fact the fighting is over in a statement they sent to Fox News.

”We were informed by our brothers in Egypt that an agreement had been reached for a mutual and simultaneous ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, starting at 2 a.m. on Friday, May 21, 2021. And that the Palestinian resistance will abide by this agreement as long as the occupation is committed.”

2:00 A.M. Friday would be 7:00 P.M on the East Coast of the U.S.

Biden is expected to make a statement about it sometime Thursday evening.

There’s been a lot of damage inflicted and loss of life suffered by both sides. Hamas sent over 4,000 rockets and missiles into Israel, which 90% or so were shot down by the Israeli Golden Dome defense shield.

232 Palestinians have been killed during the fighting. At least 12 Israelis have died.
