Influencer Andrew Tate was back in a Romania courtroom, and the news was not good. Romania court has decided to again extend Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan’s stay in police detention. Tate and his brother will stay in jail through February 27. If you’ve followed this story, you know the accusations against Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan. If not, Tate was initially detained along with his brother on December 29 as part of a human trafficking investigation. During a house raid, Tate, his brother, and two women were all arrested. The 24-hour hold was then extended to thirty days.

Why?

Formal charges must be brought against Tate and his brother, so why are they being made to stay in police custody? No new evidence was presented in court to extend the detention period. According to the BBC, the reasons for extending the detention period are expected to be given at a later date. Tate’s lawyer spoke with the Romanian outlet Gandul and stated, “We continue to maintain that practically at this moment the Tate brothers are being arrested for a crime of opinion, for what they said, at some point, in the online environment and not for what they actually did in their private lives,” Gliga said.

What are the alleged victims saying?

After raiding multiple properties and seizing millions of dollars worth of the Tate brothers’ assets as part of the “investigation,” authorities have not presented enough to charge Tate.

The initial arrests were only made based on claims from at least six women. The arrests of Tate and his brother and two others come after accusations that the brothers recruited women on social media platforms and persuaded them to travel to their home by claiming they were in love. Once at the house, the alleged victims say they were forced to perform on webcams sexually. Since the initial claims were made public, two alleged victims have said they were not victims. The two women say prosecutors labeled them victims and that Tate or his brother never abused them.

Andrew Tate and his brother are denying the serious allegations. However, because they have not been formally charged, they cannot plead guilty or not guilty.
