Ice Cube is pushing back at critics who have recently called out the rap icon. “I’m not playing no more of these political games” he said. In an interview with Chris Cuomo of CNN on Friday night, Ice Cube clarified comments he made about working on a plan to help Black Americans with Donald Trump.
The “Boyz in the Hood” star said, “I didn’t run to go work with any campaign. Both campaigns contacted me, both campaigns wanted to talk to me about the Contract with Black America. One campaign said, ‘We love what you have, but let’s really dig into it after the election,‘ and the other campaign said, ‘We love what you have, do you mind talking to us about it?’ And that’s what I did, so I didn’t run to nobody.”
Ice Cube went onto explain that he wants change regardless of who can help bring it. “I’m not playing no more of these political games … I’m going to whoever’s in power and I’m going to speak to them about our problems,” Ice Cube said. “I’m not going in there talking about minorities, I’m not going in there talking about people of color or diversity or none of that stuff. I’m going there for Black Americans, the ones who are descendants of slaves.”
Trump’s plan, for which Ice Cube provided recommendations, includes initiatives like, replacing “failing schools” with “full school choice” and promoting “neighborhoods with highest policing standards.” Ice Cube has come under fire for working with the Trump campaign but said, “If anyone has a problem with that, it seems like a personal problem.”
Following the Cuomo interview, CNN anchor Don Lemon criticized Ice Cube while doing cross-talk with Chris Cuomo on air. Ice Cube was definitely paying attention, tweeting out “Thank you Chris @CuomoPrimeTime you’re a man of your word. @donlemon that was some punk ass shit you just did. If you have any balls I need to be on your show Monday night at 10pm. I’ll be ready.”
On Saturday morning Cube continued to defend his stance, tweeting a response to critics, “A lot of energy being spent on telling me to stay in my lane. Zero energy spent on telling Biden/Harris they need to do way more for Black people to shore up the vote. Smh”
