The world needs more billionaires with the sense of humor of a 13-year-old. For now, having just one will have to do, and thankfully you can count on Elon Musk to routinely drop a corny, quirky or maybe even dirty joke on the world to see if they are paying attention. It happened again this week, when the CEO of Tesla decided to lower the price of his Model S.

“The gauntlet has been thrown down. The prophecy will be fulfilled,” Musk wrote on Twitter on Wednesday, Oct. 14. Reading between the lines regarding his comment about the gauntlet, it was a shot at Lucid, who announced they were going after the Tesla Model S with their base-model Air sedan. The price of that car is $77,400, or $69,900 after the $7,500 federal tax credit.

So, like a complimentary wingman, Lucid inadvertently teed Musk up to upstage their big announcement, and Musk can offer his vehicle at a lower price even without the federal tax credit — and get a couple cheap laughs out of the deal from his fans and followers around the world as well.

Musk’s announcement has been retweeted almost 40,000 times and registered nearly 300,000 likes.

Something tells me Henry Ford and Enzo Ferrari might have found something like this beneath them, but in a high-strung world we’ll take a chuckle anywhere we can get it.
