A shooting in Manhattan’s Upper East Side on Wednesday night has left a 20-year-old mother dead.

The shooting occurred on East 95th St and Lexington Ave in Manhattan while the young mother was pushing a 3-month-old baby in a stroller around 8:30 p.m. ET.

The victim was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead an hour later, confirmed the NYPD’s Commissioner Keechant L. Sewell.

The woman was shot by an “unknown” suspect “at a very close range,” Sewell said.

The Suspect is on the Loose

The killer was described as wearing a “black hooded sweatshirt and sweatpants” and ran away Eastbound on 95th street after shooting the woman once in the head.

One shell casing was recovered at the scene, sources told NBC New York, and police are investigating.

The infant was not harmed.

“We’re going to find this person that’s guilty of this horrific crime. We’re going to find him and bring him to justice … to make sure that innocent person receives that justice,”  said New York City Mayor Eric Adams at the 10:30 p.m. press conference

Arrests have yet to be made.

New York City Mayor Blames “Over-Proliferation” of Guns

Mayor Adams mentioned that he had spent his “entire day” before the shooting addressing the “over-proliferation” of guns on the streets.

“There is just no fear of using these guns on innocent New Yorkers. And this is the result of that,” said the NYC mayor.
