Roger Federer is what you would call a very low-key icon. The man is one of, if not the greatest and most accomplished men’s tennis players of all time.  He won 20 Grand Slam events, which is kind of mind-blowing. Apparently, he has another skill that fans can tap into.

Soothing traffic directions from his voice on Waze. Federer is providing directions in multiple languages, too — feel free to select English, French, or German. That’s what I call a triple threat.

Federer is known for his grace, poise, and tactical brilliance; not so much for his comedic abilities, but he will drop some funny and sly little one-liners in his Waze VoiceOver gig. For instance, if you miss a turn, he’ll say, “Make a U-Turn. Hey, even champions can mess up.”  That’s not a knee-slapper, but it’s functionally amusing.

Here’s another; “ Heavy traffic reported ahead. Let’s treat this like a change-of-ends break. I might even put on a fresh shirt.”  Again, that’s not comedy gold, but we need Federer to take some baby steps here before he’s ready for a Netflix special.

There is one potential hazard if you choose Federer’s voice for your Waze directions. He could put you to sleep. He’s an all-time legend with a racket in his hands, but he is not what you would call “high-energy.”

If you want another voice to check out on Waze, take a listen to Dateline’s Keith Morrison. That’s my personal favorite. He makes a murder mystery voiceover come alive on the NBC show. Heck, he could talk about the lint in his dryer for 35 minutes, and somehow it would sound compelling.
