The future for Gen Z men in the workforce is predicted to be very lucrative compared to Gen Z women, who are expected to have to deal with an even wider wage gap than the present.

According to social psychologist, author, and NYU professor Jonathan Haidt, the gender pay gap will become increasingly worse around the 2030s. Haidt says this is when millions of generation z women flood the workforce. He says they will be more likely to suffer from depression and anxiety and less inclined to take risks. Now the question is why?

During an interview on the “national crisis” of Gen Z, Haidt expressed his concerns about the declining mental health of today’s youth due to social media. According to the psychologist, depression rates have skyrocketed among Gen Zers. He says social media is linked to Gen Zers not spending time with each other due to their childhood being spent “largely just through the phone.” He says young women are significantly suffering from the impact of social media. Because of this, women’s career advancement and pay will suffer. The psychologist expresses to avoid a workplace of depressed, anxious, and fragile employees, the best practice will be to hire people who were not born in English-speaking countries. That’s because he sees a similar problem in Gen Zers born in the UK and Canada.

How accurate is Haidt’s theory? We may only know years from now when most of Gen Z has been in the workforce for a while. What we know now is according to Pew Research Center, Gen Z and younger millennial women earn more than their male counterparts in about 16 cities. However, Pew does recognize that pay gaps are the most narrow at the beginning of a woman’s career. As women age, studies show the pay gaps get wider for women, with an average difference of $2,000.

Gen Z men are with problems. Recent studies show they are dropping out of the workforce as they view their low-paying jobs as having a low social status.
As an entrepreneur expecting to own a Fortune 500 company, how will you prepare or suggest other business owners prepare as Gen Z continues to enter the workforce?
