Elizabeth Holmes tried every legal trick in the book to try and avoid going to federal prison.

The reality of 11 years behind bars finally hit the disgraced founder of Theranos and one-time billionaire as she checks into the Texas facility that will be her home for over a decade.

The prison is located near her hometown of Houston, allowing her greater access to family members as she serves out her sentence. She had to say goodbye to her 2-year-old son and 3-month-old baby, who will stay with their father, Billy Williams, who lives in San Diego.

Holmes was convicted in January 2022 of four counts of fraud and conspiracy. She is appealing that conviction, but the judge in the case put the kibosh on her request to remain free while they look at the merits of her appeal.

It is a dramatic fall from grace from the hotshot exec who wooed investors and the media.  She raised over $900 million on promises that the blood testing technology of Theranos was so game-changing that it could diagnose diseases with just a few drops of blood.  Her world crashed.  She went from being featured on the cover of Forbes Magazine to an entire episode of the CNBC hit show “American Greed.”

Her attempts at blaming her ex-partner and lover, Sonny Balwani, failed spectacularly. He will also be serving a lengthy prison sentence for his role in the fraud.

As for life in prison, a former inmate at the facility told Fox that inmates like Holmes will get up to 300 minutes per month to speak with loved ones on the phone.  She can have visitors on the weekend.

Needless to say, her living quarters will be a fraction of the 74-acre, century-old property in Woodside, California, for sale at $135 million.
