Remember Netscape? IT was a user-friendly web browser founded way back in 1994, the same year as the movie Dumb and Dumber and the OJ Simpson freeway chase.
One of the founders was a guy named Jim Clark, who worked at Stanford teaching in the graduate school program. He and several students founded Silicon Graphics, and then Jim used some of that money to partner with Marc Andreesen to create Netscape.
Clark wasn’t done. When they sold to AOL, he turned his $4 million investment in Netscape into $1.2 billion. In 1996, he founded the healthcare startup Healtheon. And sold that to WebMD for $2.8 billion.
If you haven’t figured it out, he’s a Silicon Valley legend with a net worth of $3 billion.
He added to that legend by owning the record for the most expensive home sale in the history of Florida, and it was a flip.
The property name is “Gemini,” located near Palm Beach. It was owned for years by William B. Ziff. According to Celebrity Net Worth, it is surrounded by water and has 62,000 square feet of living space and 1,200 feet of Atlantic Ocean frontage.
Ziff died in 2006; his family listed it for $200 million. No takers for years, and then in March of 2021, Clark pounced, buying it for $94.2 million. Fast forward 15 months and Clark has now flipped the property for $175 million. The third-most expensive home sale in US history.
