As expected, the Food and Drug Administration gave full approval to the Pfizer and BioNTech COVID vaccine, and the fallout should be swift.

This is what many businesses, universities, schools and other groups around the country have been waiting for, and now that the FDA has given their official green light, expect an onslaught of announcements from corporate and education leaders mandating the vaccine.

Prior to the FDA’s move, the vaccine was classified with Emergency Use Authorization.

40,000 people were involved in the clinical trail, that led to the Emergency Use Authorization last winter, and that was good enough for over 204 million shots to be given. With the FDA feeling the heat to fully approve these two vaccines, they worked quickly to approve the application Pfizer and BioNTech submitted back in May.

It was a complicated process though, as the FDA’s scientists had to sift through hundreds of thousands of pages of data before they felt comfortable with this ruling.  Full approval also required more inspections of facilities where the vaccines were being made, and details on production had to be analyzed.

30% of Americans currently unvaccinated say they’d more likely get the shot upon FDA approval.

Next up is Moderna’s application, and full FDA approval for them could come within the next 30 days.
