He was off the grid for a few weeks.  No adulation, no interviews, no world-class flip flopping for the highest paid Federal government employee in the land.

Dr. Fauci got back to his happy place, in front of television cameras, to talk  about the “greatest threat” to the attempt to eliminate COVID 19.

Fauci, who is 81-years old, said Delta, which was first identified in India, now makes up 20% of all new COVID cases in the United States.  That is up 10% from roughly a couple weeks ago, which spooked Fauci enough to jump in front of microphones during a White House news conference.

Here’s a small taste from Fauci’s moment in the spotlight, bringing his usual bedside charm of impending doom.  “Similar to the situation in the U.K., the delta variant is currently the greatest threat in the U.S. to our attempt to eliminate Covid-19.”

The CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky did the PR tour too, saying Friday on Good Morning America that Americans need to get their COVID vaccination to fight off delta. She did something Fauci doesn’t know how to do though, she offered hope and encouragement. “As worrisome as this delta strain is with regard to its hyper transmissibility, our vaccines work.  If you get vaccinated, “you’ll be protected against this delta variant.”

Vaccinations are good.  Delta variant is potentially bad. That’s basically the message from Fauci today.  Well that, and the fact that his personal publicist better get used to 3-4 hours of sleep a night.
