If you are among the many millions of Americans who sought the silver lining in the global pandemic, one subtle benefit is going away – if you care.

Yep, sweatpants are out and it’s time to step up your fashion game, according to a report from fashion search platform Lyst.

And this isn’t just Lyst’s opinion, the data is based on searches of more than 150 million shoppers.

The headline is, basically, that your beloved sweatpants phase has run its course.

What to wear? If you have some disposable income – or a clothing allowance – here is some detail from the company:

“The Lyst Index for the first quarter of 2021 is based on global Lyst and Google search data, conversion rates and sales, as well as brand and product social media mentions and engagement statistics worldwide over a three-month period.

“So, Gucci once again tops Lyst’s ranking of hottest brands, which the platform attributes to a strong demand from online shoppers over the past few months.

“Nike ranked second, while French luxury label Dior entered the list strong, rounding out the top three. Balenciaga, Moncler, Prada, Bottega Veneta, Saint Laurent and Off-White also landed in the top 10 of the Lyst Index.”

It seems many millions of Americans who enjoyed their seclusion wardrobe want to get out of their cages while looking presentable.

“Several quarters ago the prevailing mood was of hunkering down and adapting to a predominantly home-based lifestyle. Now there are signs that shoppers are eager to get out again, express themselves, and diversify away from sweats,” the company said in a statement this week.

Within the report, searches for high heels and dresses were up 163% and 222% respectively in the most recent quarter.

And, alas, sweatpants fell off the list for the first time since early 2020.
