Former CEO of Abercrombie & Fitch has been accused of sexually exploiting young men during events he and his partner hosted throughout the world.

The two men in question – Mike Jeffries and Matthew Smith – are under investigation for allegedly recruiting men specifically for sex events while using a middleman to distance themselves from any direct dealings.

The middleman, hired by Jeffries, allegedly sexually “auditioned” the young men by requesting or offering to perform oral sex on them, before they were introduced to Jeffries and his partner, Smith.

Former models have told BBC that during events, Jeffries and Smith would engage in sexual activity with about four men or “direct” them to have sex with each other. Afterwards, the men said his staff at the event handed them envelopes filled with thousands of dollars in cash. Almost all the men claimed to have felt harmed by the experience.

A&F, which runs roughly 850 stores worldwide including its Hollister brand, said that since being contacted by the BBC, it had engaged an “outside law firm to conduct an independent investigation” into the claims. The company made a statement, it was “appalled and disgusted” by the alleged behaviors.

A&F said it was “not aware of the allegations of sexual misconduct,” and that its new leadership had transformed the company into “the values-driven organization we are today.”

Although Jeffries stepped down from his role in 2014, citing declining scales, BBC conducted a two-year investigation involving 12 men either organized or attended sex parties between 2009 and 2015.

In 1988, Abercrombie & Fitch was bought by The Limited, Inc. – founded by Leslie H. Wexner, who maintained ties with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Although it may just be a matter of time, charged have not yet been officially filed.
