Outlandish statements from the mouth of Elon Musk aren’t uncommon, but what he said about the future of human civilization is a little more chilling than his thoughts at some particular moment about Dogecoin.

A relatively important topic of the future of the human race came up, and according to the richest man in the world, we’re in big trouble.

Why?  The birth rate is getting dangerously low, Musk said at the Wall Street Journal’s annual CEO Council.

“I think one of the biggest risks to civilization is the low birth rate and the rapidly declining birthrate, and yet, so many people, including smart people, think that there are too many people in the world and think that the population is growing out of control. It’s completely the opposite. Please look at the numbers — if people don’t have more children, civilization is going to crumble, mark my words.”

Now, was Musk using the future of the human race to bring interest to the Tesla Bot? That is how the topic came up at the conference, and Musk told the people there that his “humanoid  Robot,” which will use Tesla’s self-driving car AI could help remedy world labor issues.

Specifically, Musk said the Tesla Bot could handle working shifts at factories and help remedy a world labor shortage.

There is some data to back up Musk’s claim on the birth rate. The World Bank says the global birthrate has dropped for the last 50 years.

And don’t get Musk started on the concept of living forever.

“I think it is important for us to die because most of the time, people don’t change their mind; they just die. If they live forever, then we might become a very ossified society where new ideas cannot succeed.

With six kids of his own, Musk has done his part on the human birth rate crisis as he sees it.
