Drake has initiated legal action against Universal Music Group (UMG) and Spotify, accusing them of artificially inflating streaming numbers for Kendrick Lamar’s diss track “Not Like Us” through unethical practices, such as using bots and paying influencers to promote the song, while also manipulating Apple’s Siri to divert users from Drake’s music.

Filed in a New York court by Drake’s company, Frozen Moments LLC, the petition claims UMG conspired to manipulate streaming services and airwaves, allegedly offering Spotify a 30% discount on licensing rates for increased promotion.

UMG has denied the accusations, labeling them as “offensive and untrue” and emphasizing its commitment to ethical marketing practices.

The lawsuit is part of an ongoing feud between the two rappers, which has seen them release a series of diss tracks targeting each other. “Not Like Us,” the culmination of a weeks-long musical back-and-forth between the two artists, seemed to imply that Drake has engaged in relationships with minors.

Despite the allegation, Drake’s suit does not target Lamar personally, focusing instead on alleged corporate malpractices that contributed to the song’s success, which Drake’s team asserts was misleadingly portrayed to consumers.

The court filing seeks to preserve documents for potential future litigation, hinting at deeper legal battles ahead between the involved parties.
