It’s a headline that hasn’t been written in the history of the United States, and it will dominate the news for a long time and most likely impact the 2024 Presidential election. After much speculation, tough talk, denials, innuendo, and delays, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg made history —  and carried through on his threat to indict former President Donald Trump over alleged hush money payments made leading up to the 2016 election.

This is all part of a years-long investigation, and the heat has been on Trump about a $130,000 payment to porn star Stormy Daniels and a $150,000 payment to former Playboy model Karen McDougal. The New York Times reported that the felony indictment was filed under seal and will likely be announced soon. The report said that when that happens, Trump will be required to surrender and face arraignment.

The AP reported that Trump’s lawyer had confirmed the indictment, making him the first-ever former president to face criminal charges.

What sped this development along was the alleged payment to McDougal. The Wall Street Journal reported that prosecutors could use evidence from that payment to try and establish an alleged pattern of conduct by Trump.

As for whether Trump was aware that the payment was made to McDougal, his lawyers have said the former president did not know of it.

It probably won’t be a complete shock to Trump, as he said last week that he expected it to happen as early as March 21.

So far, there’s been no comment from Trump himself, but with his campaign to get back to the White House underway, he most likely will not be quiet for long.
