There has to be a time when California starts feeling some real pain from the exodus out of the state by corporations looking for a better business climate.
Disney announced that they are sending 2,000 employees on a cross-country trip from SoCal to Florida. The official corporate press release talked about doing it “to increase collaboration amongst staff and consolidate operations.”
But in a letter to employees, Disney’s chairman of Parks, Experiences and Products was a little more candid and revealing.
“Expanding our already significant DPEP [Disney parks, experiences and products] footprint in Florida makes sense. In addition to Florida’s business-friendly climate, this new regional campus gives us the opportunity to consolidate our teams and be more collaborative and impactful both from a creative and operational standpoint.”
The move will take roughly 18 months to execute, and it will add to the number of 60,000 plus employees who already work in Florida.
The eastward migration has been going on for months, with numerous companies in Cali heading to states like Texas or Nevada.
Florida is welcoming many big businesses who want to reap the benefits of a business-first local government, including Goldman Sachs, Blacksont and Elliot Management.
